1) Unintentional Injuries or Illness, 2) Alcohol or Drug Use, 3) Sexual Behaviors that may lead to HIV, STD/STIs or unintentional pregnancy, 4) Tobacco Use, 5) Unhealthy Dietary Behaviors, 6) Physical Inactivity.
Lifestyle Factors
Habits and choices in your life that individuals have control over to promote a healthy life, such as 8-10 hours of sleep, nutritious food, being active for 60 minutes a day, maintaining good weight, managing stress, and avoiding alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.
Health Literacy
Knowledge.
Prevention/Refusal Skills
Practicing health & safety habits to remain free from disease & injury.
Steps to Master a Skill
Accessing Information Skill
Identify sources of information, explain how to find the needed help, explain what type of help this source offers, and explain why it is a good source.
External Influences
Influences you get from outside of you.
Internal Influences
Influences you get from inside you.
SMART Goal
An acronym for goal setting standing for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
Decision Making Steps
STEP 1: Describe the decision or problem; STEP 2: Identify what you want to happen; STEP 3: Brainstorm optional ways to get what you want to happen; STEP 4: Omit ideas that don’t check out and ideas you don’t want to try / Check Your Thinking; STEP 5: Select an idea to try; STEP 6: Act on the idea; STEP 7: Evaluate how it turned out.
Five Communication Skills
Active listening, clear verbal expression, non-verbal communication, empathy, and adaptability.
Passive Communication
A reserved style where individuals hear words or receive information without fully engaging, asserting themselves, or providing verbal and non-verbal feedback.
Aggressive Communication
Being aggressive occurs when you want to win at any cost, are pushy, put other people down, and don't listen to or respect other people or their ideas.
Assertive Communication
Showing confidence in what you are saying; a communication style that clearly and directly tells people your needs or ideas.
Self-Management
The ability to control your emotions, thoughts, and actions to reach your goals.

Time Management & Organization, Goal Setting & Motivation, Emotional & Stress Regulation, and Adaptability.
Six Steps to Advocacy
