bulimia nervosa

binge eating then vomiting or using laxatives, diuretics, fasting

what are some characteristics of bulimia:

• client usually has normal weight

• once at least one time weekly for 3 months

• self eval based on body weight and shape

what are some findings that can lead to bulimia:

• disappears after eating

• tooth enamel erosion

• swollen glands

• knuckle abrasions

• esophageal tears

• epiglottitis

• excessive H2O

severity of bulimia:

mild: 1-3 times per week

moderate: 4-7

severe: 8-13

extreme: 14 or more

treatment of bulimia:

• CBT

• behavioral modification

• SSRI’s

• TCA’s

binge eating disorder:

recurrent binging without purging

• loss of control

• may occur in clients with normal weight

• once weekly for 3 months
