Phonation
The process of creating sound by the vibration of the vocal folds as air passes through the larynx.
Fundamental Frequency (Fo)
The number of times the vocal folds open and close per second, determining the pitch of the voice.
Myoelastic Aerodynamic Theory
A theory explaining vocal fold vibration based on muscle tension and air pressure.
Bernoulli Effect
The phenomenon where a drop in air pressure occurs as air flows through the glottis, causing the vocal folds to be sucked together.
Larynx
The organ located in the throat that houses the vocal folds and is involved in sound production.
Subglottal Pressure
The air pressure below the vocal folds that contributes to their vibration.
Vocal Folds
Elastic structures in the larynx that vibrate to produce sound.
Resonance
The amplification and modification of sound as it passes through the vocal tract.
Intrinsic Laryngeal Muscles
Muscles that control the movements and adjustments of the vocal folds.
Elasticity
The ability of the vocal folds to return to their original shape after being stretched.
