Verbal communication

information.

Non-verbal communication

is communication without using words. Instead, it relies on facial expressions, gestures, posture, eye contact, tone of voice, appearance, and body movement.

Visual communication

uses images, symbols, colors, graphs, charts, videos, signs, and other visual elements to communicate information.

Intrapersonal Communication

Communicating with yourself (inner conversation).

Interpersonal Communication

Occurs between two or more people to exchange ideas, build relationships, or accomplish tasks.

Interactional

Purpose is to maintain relationships (e.g., chatting, greeting, sharing experiences).

Transactional

Purpose is to complete a task (e.g., buying food, ordering online, job interview, group project).

Extended Communication

Communicating through technology to a large, widespread audience. Examples: YouTube videos, television broadcasts, radio, podcasts, webinars, Facebook Live.

Organizational Communication

Communication within structured environments like schools, hospitals, businesses, and government offices.

Intercultural Communication

Communication between people from different cultural backgrounds who may have different languages, traditions, beliefs, greetings, and gestures. Being culturally sensitive helps prevent misunderstandings and promotes mutual respect.

Formal Communication

Used in professional, academic, and official situations. Examples include speeches, business letters, reports, research presentations, and official emails.

Informal Communication

Relaxed and conversational. Examples include chatting with friends, text messages, family conversations, and social media messages.
