A palette of related colors that follow a theme.
Marker
A layer of paper with all the pattern pieces drawn onto it in the most efficient arrangement possible.
Matching Points
Where patterns in the fabric need to match in the garment. (Ex. At the front, side seams, sleeves, etc.)
Full Fashioning
The size and shape of the fabric is created at the same time as the garment (unique to sweaters).
Cut-and-Sew Method
Pattern pieces are laid out on flat knitted fabric, similar to woven garment construction.
Cost Per Wear
Divide the purchase price of a garment by the number of times it has been worn.
Ease
The difference between the measurement of the garment and the measurement of the wearer at any given point.
Set
Refers to a smooth fit without any drag lines or wrinkles.
Drag Lines
These form where the fabric is being pulled or where there is too much fabric to span the distance required.
Seamline
place marked on the pattern piece where the stitching line will be to bring the seams together
Seam Allowance
distance from the seamline to the cut edge (raw edge) of the fabric
Floats
A simplified fashion drawing without a figure
Flats
Two-dimensional technical drawings that show specs
Tech Pack
Package of information sent to the manufacturer that covers every detail for the development of the prototype samples.
Flat Sewing
Less costly, easier to sew, fit is not always smooth or comfortable, has shallower sleeve cap
ITR Sewing
More costly, more difficult to sew, better fit, seams at edges are more attractive, has a rounder sleeve cap with better fit at shoulder
