Second Continental Congress
The body that signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 17776, proclaiming America's independence from Britain.
Preamble
The introduction announcing independence from the British Empire, which challenged the notion of the king's divine right, stated that "liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" are unalienable rights, and established that gov existed for the people.
