Information Technology (IT)
A field that focuses on the use of computers and telecommunications to store, retrieve, transmit, and manipulate data.
Graphical User Interface (GUI)
A user interface that allows users to interact with electronic devices using graphical icons and visual indicators.
Data
A collection of raw facts and figures which, in itself, has no meaning.
Processing
The act of converting raw data into a meaningful form, which can involve calculation, comparison, decision-making, and logical branching.
Information
Processed data that has meaning, resulting from processing raw data.
Computer System
An electronic device that accepts, stores, processes data, and produces output.
Input Device
A hardware component used to enter data and instructions into a computer.
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
The main part of a computer that performs processing tasks and controls activities.
Memory
Hardware within a computer that temporarily stores data and instructions for immediate use.
Output Device
Hardware that receives and displays the results of processing.
Analog Computers
Computers that measure and process data such as current, voltage, and temperature in continuous values.
Digital Computers
Computers that process data in binary form (0s and 1s).
Hybrid Computers
Computers that can process both analog and digital signals.
Microcomputer
A small computer designed for individual use, often referred to as a personal computer.
Minicomputers
Larger than microcomputers, these serve multiple users simultaneously with increased processing power.
Mainframe Computer
A powerful computer that supports many users concurrently and is capable of processing large amounts of data.
Supercomputer
The most powerful type of computer, designed to process complex calculations and large volumes of data.
Vacuum Tube
An electronic device used in first-generation computers for circuit construction, now largely replaced by transistors.
Transistor
A semiconductor device used to amplify or switch electronic signals and electrical power, key to second-generation computers.
Integrated Circuit (IC) Chip
A set of electronic circuits on a small flat chip made of semiconductor material, important in third-generation computers.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems.
Input-Process-Output Model
A framework describing how data is input into a system, processed, and ultimately outputted as information.
