Learning
A long-lasting change in behaviour caused by environmental events. Does not include changes caused by maturation, drugs or surgery.
Law of Effect
If a behaviour is followed by a favourable consequence (reinforcer), the probability of that behaviour occurring again increases.
Operant Conditioning
Learning associated between a response and its consequences. Example: studying - good grade - studying increases.
Operant Behaviour
Behaviour controlled by its consequences. Example: pressing a lever - receiving food - lever pressing increases.
Reinforcer
An environmental event that increases the probability of the behaviour it folllows. Reinforcement = increases behaviour.
