Which orbit corresponds with the lowest amount of energy.

the level closest to the nucleus.

2
New cards

How many electrons can layer 1 hold?

2 electrons

3
New cards

How many electrons can layer 2 hold?

8 electrons

What is an example of the differance of continuous energy and quantized energy?

On the ramp, the walker can move up or down the ramp with any sized step. On the stairs, the walker must take steps of a specific size to move up or down the staircase. The staircase better describes Bohr’s Model

Why do elements have their own unique emission spectra?

when looking at a light through defraction glasses, you see an array of lines, all with different colors. when you have different gasses, the colors vary, therefore the colors being more predominant. When an electron gets a lot of energy they move up a level, and when the electron loses their energy, they move down a level, emitting a light.

6
New cards

What does CER stand for?

Claim

Evidence

Reason

7
New cards

What is the differences between the Electron cloud model and the Bohr model?

In the Electron Cloud Model, they do not have a defined path around the nucleus.

8
New cards

What are similarities between the Electron Cloud Model and the Bohr Model?

Each electron needs a certain amount of energy to move levels.

9
New cards

What is the Shell Model?

The negatively charged fundamental particles which are known as electrons are considered to occupy diffuse shells in the space that surrounds the positively charged nucleus.

10
New cards

What is atomic orbital?

the high probability location of an electron

11
New cards

What is energy shells?

number of principal energy shells increases as its distance from the nucleus. Closer to the nucleus= less energy

12
New cards

What are sub-shells?

A grouping of electrons in a shell according to the shape of the region of space they occupy

13
New cards

What are sub-shells stacked on?

The X,Y,Z plane
