Catheterization

a sterile procedure consisting of passing a soft catheter through the urethra and into the bladder for the purpose of (1) instilling of pouring fluids or medication into the bladder or (2) removing urine

Dysuria

difficulty or pain with urination

Hematuria

blood in the urine

Anuria

no urine output

Creatinine

one of the two most common nitrogenous waste products that are normally filtered from the blood; the final product of creative catabolism

Micturition

the process/acting of urination

Diuretics

medication that increases urine production

Glomerulonephritis

a disease/inflammation that damages the glomeruli, the kidneys tiny blood filters

Nocturia

excessive voiding (urinating) at night

Oliguria

a decrease in urine output

Urinalysis

a laboratory urine test for pH

Indwelling Catheter

a catheter that is placed for a longer period of time than an in and out catheter as commonly occurs for urinary incontinence; a ballon on the end of the catheter is inflated to hold the catheter in the bladder

Uremia

a toxic condition of the blood due to high levels of waste products

Pyuria

pus in the urine

Proteinuria

Protein in the urine, specific protein or albumin may be identified, resulting in albuminuria

Pyelonephritis
