Pre-dating Henry VII’s reign
Henry predated his reign to 21st August 1485.
He did this as it meant that any nobles backing Richard at the battle of Bosworth were guilty of treason, allowing henry to confiscate their land and wealth.
Marriage & Heir
Henry married Elizabeth of York in January 1486, uniting the two houses of York and Lancaster, as Elizabeth was the niece of Richard III.
Henry did not marry Elizabeth until he had been crowned King, to show that his claim to the throne was not through his wife.
Later that same year Prince Arthur was born, the next in line to the throne of England.
First Parliament
Henry did not call parliament until after his coronation. Showing that his power as king stemmed from himself rather than being granted by parliament.
Passed acts of attainer and was granted tonnage and poundage, (right to collect custom duties).
Yorkist threats
Edward, Earl of Warwick was immediately imprisoned in the tower of London.
John de la Pole became a member of the king’s council until 1487 when he fled to lambert Simnel.
Thomas Howard, Earl of Surrey & Henry Percy, Earl of Northumberland were pardoned.
Lord Lovell, Sir Thomas Stafford and Edmund de la Pole were executed.
