Speech Recognition Threshold (SRT)
The softest level at which one can understand speech and identify half of the stimulus words.
Speech Detection Threshold (SDT/SAT)
The level at which one can detect the presence of speech without the need to repeat the words.
Word Recognition Score (WRS)
The percentage of one-syllable words correctly identified at a comfortable listening level.
Most Comfortable Loudness Level (MCL)
The hearing level at which a client perceives sound as most comfortable.
Uncomfortable Loudness Level (UCL)
The intensity level at which sound becomes uncomfortable for the listener.
Spondee
A two-syllable word with equal stress on each syllable, used in SRT testing.
Dynamic Range
The difference between UCL and SRT, indicating the range of comfortable loudness.
Recruitment
A phenomenon where a slight increase in sound intensity causes a disproportionate increase in the sensation of loudness.
Speech-in-Noise Testing (SPIN)
Testing to assess performance in noisy environments, analyzing the signal-to-noise ratio.
Carrier Phrase
A phrase used in WRS testing to present words in a natural conversational context.
