cytoplasm
Jelly like substance outside of the nucleus that surrounds the other organelles.

nucleus
A dense, central part of an object, group, or system
-Central core or control center
-Only in eukaryotes
Nucleolus
-Dense center of the nucleus.
-Makes Ribosomes
Nuclear Envelope
-Membrane that surrounds the nucleus.
-It controls what enters and leaves the nucleus through small openings called nuclear pores.
-Only in eukaryotic cells.

Ribosomes
- Tiny particles of RNA.
- Makes proteins.
- Found in Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells.
Endoplasmic Reticulum(ER)
Where lipids and proteins are made.
- Get materials ready for export.
Rough ER
helps produce and transport large amounts of proteins because it has lots of ribosomes attached to it.
Smooth ER
has no ribosomes, it contains ENZYMES to help with making lipids

Golgi Apparatus
Gets material ready for shipment to other parts of the cell or outside the cell.
FOUND IN EUKARYOTIC CELLS
Vacuole
Vacuole are large sacs in cytoplasm used for storage of materials.
Plant cells have one large vacuole that gives the cell shape.
Vesicle
Vesicles are small sacs in eukaryotic cells that are used for storage.
It moves materials between organelles or to the outside of the cell.
Lysosome
Uses enzymes to break down materials so the cell can use them.
found most in animals cells but also in few plant cells.
Cytoskeleton
Gives the cell its shape.
Microfilaments
Thread-like structure made of actin.
Helps with movement
Microtubules
Microtubules aid in cell division.
Helps with cell movement.

Centrioles
-Organizes cell division.
FOUND in ANIMAL CELLS near nucleus.

Chloroplasts
-Conducts photosynthesis.
-Uses energy from the sun to make food for the cell.
Only found in plant cells.

Mitochondria
-Converts food into energy for the cell.
-Have their own DNA.

Cell Wall
Rigid structure around the cell that provides protection and shape.
Found in prokaryotes and plant cells. NOT in animal cells.

Cell Membrane.
-Regulates what enters and leaves the cell.
Made up of a phospholipid bilayer. Selectively permeable: some things can pass through, but not everything.

Prokaryotic cells
- smaller and simpler cells
