Light
A nature form of energy that makes things visible and simulates sight.
Natural light source
Light that comes from something that makes its own light. Does not need fuel to power.
Radiates
Emits light/heat in the form of waves or rays
Radiation
When energy from a star, moves through space away from a source.
Radiant energy
Energy that is transmitted in a wave motion (electromagnetic wave)
Artificial Light Source
This is a light source that is man made.
Incandescent source
Old style light bulbs are an example of this source
Incandescence
Produces light by burning a metal wire called the filament it gives out heat and light at the same time.
Fluorescence
Light produced from mercury gas and electricity mixing.
Phosphorescene
Energy absorbed by a substance and it is slowly released in the form of light .
Chemiluminescence
A chemical reaction used to create light.
Bioluminescence
The production and emission of light by a living organism
Luminous
Produces light
Non-luminous
Not capable of producing light, but can be capable of reflecting light from another source.
Ray Model of light
Light travels in a straight line and will bounce off of solid objects and produce shadows. It does not travel in waves.
Ray
A straight line of travel of a beam of light.
Ray Diagram
The way rays can be used to show the size of shadows.
Transparent
Material which light can get through freely, allowing the object behind to be distinctly seen.
Translucent
Allowing some light but not detailed images to pass through. It scatters the light.
Opaque
Does not allow any light to pass through
