Compositional Stoichiometry
The study of the ratios of the elements within a single substance.
Reaction Stoichiometry
The study of the ratios of the substances involved in chemical reactions.
Stoichiometry
The relationship between quantities of substances taking part in reactions or forming compounds.
Law of Simple Proportions
States that the ratios between quantities of substances are easily expressed as integers.
Mole
The amount of substance that contains as many elementary entities as there are atoms in 12 grams of carbon-12.
Avogadro's Number
6.022 x 10^23; the number of atoms, molecules, or particles in one mole of a substance.
Empirical Formula
The simplest integer ratio of the elements in a compound.
Limiting Reagent
The reactant that is completely consumed first in a chemical reaction, limiting the amount of products formed.
Percentage Composition
The percentage by mass of each element in a compound.
Atomic Theory
A theory that states that matter is composed of discrete units called atoms.
Molar Mass
The mass of one mole of a substance, usually expressed in grams per mole.
Chemical Reaction
A process that involves the transformation of one or more substances into different substances.
