What is Preventive?

This could range from limited access online to physical access (Ex. Firewalls & Guards)

What is Deterrent?

This provides discouragement to the attackers BEFORE their attempt (Ex. Adding warning signs & Splash screens)

What is Detective?

This identifies & warns system of an attempt while collecting logs of what was/could’ve been done

What is Corrective?

This occurs after the attack, this reverses any damage done to the system or request additional help (Ex. Law enforcement & Restoring backups)

What is Compensating?

This is incase you cannot reverse the attack, you may use other means to control the event (Temporary Solutions)

What is Directive?

This is considered the weaker control, directing someone to do something (Ex. Creating policies & Training Users)
