ACT UP

Surgeon general’s mailing
Issued by a U.S. Surgeon General to educate the public about HIV/AIDS, promote safe sex, and reduce stigma.
CARE act
Provided federal funding to support care and treatment for individuals with HIV/AIDS. Included medical care, mental health services, home healthcare, and emergency care funding.
Project SIDA
An effort to document the history of the AIDS epidemic in Congo and DRC, focused on the social, cultural, and political impacts of HIV/AIDS. Collected oral histories, from many different types of people and was used to educate the population and counter misinformation.
UNAIDS campaign
90% of people living with HIV will know their HIV status.
90% of people diagnosed with receive ART.
90% of people on ART will achieve viral suppression.

PAPI
Positive Health Action for People living with HIV. Focuses on education and support of people with HIV and addresses psychosocial health and social needs.
Alma-Ata Declaration
Emphasized universal primary health care. Health is a fundamental human right, government responsibility of public health, community participation in health care, equity in access, prevention-focused health care.
Special programme on AIDS
Blood screening, training medical staff, educating the public, and preventing discrimination. Renamed to the GPA to connect human rights with public health.

Research participants should receive the best-proven treatment.
PEPFAR
President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Launched by George W. Bush and committed to fight HIV/AIDS. Provided ART, prevention programs, and healthcare infrastructure in over 50 countries.
