First Industrial Revolution
It began in Great Britain in the 1780s. There were plenty of resources and a large labor supply. Steam power, mass production and a factory system were all used.
The second industrial revolution was marked by:
Increased activity in the mining (steel), railroad industries, telecommunications and electricity.
Spread of Railroads
Steamships and railroads were the major transportation developments of the 19th century. The transcontinental railroad was built in 1869. By 1893, four additional transcontinental lines were built. Railroads connected raw materials to factories and factories to consumers across the nation.
Bessemer Process
A way to manufacture steel quickly and cheaply by blasting hot air through melted iron to quickly remove impurities.

Andrew Carnegie
A Scottish-born American industrialist and philanthropist who founded the Carnegie Steel Company in 1892. By 1901, his company dominated the American steel industry.
Henry Flagler/FL Railroad
He Built the Florida East Coast Railroad from Jacksonville to Miami and eventually all the way to Key West. He built hotels in St. Augustine, Palm Beach and Miami. He helped contribute to the growth of Miami. He was considered the "Father of Miami".
John Rockefeller
Creator of the Standard Oil Company who made a fortune on it and joined with competing companies in trust agreements that in other words made an amazing monopoly.

He invented the oil-drip cups for trains.
