Operational Risk Management (ORM)
A decision-making tool used by personnel at all levels to increase effectiveness by identifying, assessing, and managing risks.
Risk Assessment Matrix
A matrix that combines the elements of mishap probability and hazard severity to assess risks.
Mishap Probability
The likelihood that a hazard will result in a mishap or loss, categorized from Frequent to Unlikely.
Risk Assessment Code (RAC)
An expression of risk combining hazard severity and mishap probability, categorized as Critical, Serious, Moderate, Minor, or Negligible.
HAZREP message
Provides a means for a unit to alert others when discovering a hazardous condition or experiencing a near-mishap.
HERO (Hazardous Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance)
The risk that electromagnetic radiation may unintentionally activate or degrade electrically initiated ordnance.
HERO Policy
Policy addressing the safety measures related to hazardous electromagnetic radiation.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Equipment designed to protect personnel from various hazards such as inhalation, cuts, and chemical exposure.
Hearing Conservation Program
Program to prevent occupational hearing loss and assure the auditory fitness for duty of Navy personnel.

Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)
Access to top-secret programs requiring additional security protection and handling measures.
Cybersecurity Manual
Manual providing policies and procedures for managing cybersecurity within the Department of the Navy.
Continuous Evaluation Program
A program enhancing personnel vetting and cybersecurity posture by enabling ongoing monitoring of individuals with access to sensitive information.
Personnel Security Program
Program designed to authorize access to classified information based on the reliability and trustworthiness of personnel.
TOP SECRET
The highest level of classification, compromising which could cause exceptionally grave damage to national security.
SECRET
Classification level that compromises could cause serious damage to national security.
UNCLASSIFIED
Information that can be released without clearance but may be restricted.

The process of communicating risks and control measures to all personnel involved.
Military Information Support Operations (MISO)
Operations to influence foreign populations using targeted messaging.
