Software
A set of instructions, data or programs used to operate computers and execute specific tasks; it is a generic term for applications, scripts, and programs.
System Software
A type of computer program designed to run a computer's hardware and application programs, providing a platform and working "behind the scenes."
Application Software
Also called apps, these programs perform specific personal, educational, and business functions for end-users and cannot run without system software.
Operating System (OS)
The primary example of System Software designed to run a computer's hardware and application programs.
Word Processor Software
Application software featuring tools to create, edit, format, and save text files, such as MS Word, WPS Writer, and Apple Pages.
Electronic Spreadsheet Software
Software used to manipulate large amounts of financial data in business, science, or for personal accounting.
Presentation Software
Software used to display ideas or concepts for business and educational purposes, typically in a slideshow format.
Desktop Publishing Software
Used to create items like brochures, newsletters, fliers, business cards, and 3D models for publishing or printing.
Data Management Software
Database applications that act as containers of related data for processing, analysis, storage, and retrieval.
CAD and CAM Software
Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing applications used to create 2D and 3D drawings, technical drawings, and interior designs.
Digital Video Editing Software
Tools used specifically to edit video footage and sound recordings.
Educational Reference Software
Applications designed to help students learn new information and skills through interactive presentations.
Computer Games Software
Software involving user interaction with avatars to drive, solve mysteries, fly simulation planes, or engage in virtual warfare.
Web Browsers
Applications used to access information on the World Wide Web (WWW) and request information from local networks or file servers.
