RN - Associate’s Degree (ASN)

-Community college

-technical focus

-originally a short-term solution to nursing shortage

-there was a decrease in ASNs until COVID-19 hit

RN - Bachelor’s Degree (BSN)

length: 4 years

-professional focus w/ clinical components

-emphasis on theoretical knowledge, decision making, and leadership

-different classes from ASN: community health, leadership, research

-More leadership opportunities

Master’s Degree (MSN)

length: 2 years (after BSN)

-university setting

-MANY different concentrations: FNP, CRNA, PNP, Nurse Midwife, Education, Informatics

-Practicum/clinical experiences

Doctoral Degree

length: 2-6 years

-5 hour time limit

-questions target ability compared to a passing standard

-the computer reassesses based on percentages

-the next question is picked based on competency assessment needs of each content area
