Tawhid is related to the names and attributes of Allah by affirming that
Allah is the One and Only, possessing all perfect and beautiful names and attributes that befit His majesty and greatness.
Belief in Tawhid of Allah's names and attributes means
accepting everything Allah has described Himself with in the Quran and what the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has described Him with in the Sunnah, without altering, denying, or likening them to the attributes of His creation.
This means acknowledging that Allah's names and attributes are
unique, and nothing in creation resembles Him in any way.
Muslims believe that Allah is
distinct and incomparable, and only He possesses the attributes of complete perfection.
If believers want to know their Lord and gain more knowledge of Him, they must know Him through
the verses of the Glorious Qur’an that describe Him and speak about His actions and His names and attributes
Allah Almighty cannot be seen in this world, and He knows
His names and attributes more than any of His creation.
Then His Prophets and Messengers know them better than
anyone else who has not been guided by Revelation.
Knowing Allah Almighty is one of the
greatest goals and the most wonderful gifts.
For this reason, the greatest verse in the Qur'an is
Ayat al-Kursi (al-Baqarah:255)
Ayat al-Kursi (al-Baqarah:255) is the greatest verse because
because it contains Allah's names and attributes.
It is also for this reason that Surat al-Ikhlas (Purity of Faith) is equivalent to one-third of the Qur'an, because
it contains a description of Allah Almighty.
Monotheism of Allah's Names and Attributes means to
believe that whatever names and descriptions Allah has either affirmed or negated for Himself in His Book, or through His Prophet (pbuh), belong to Allah alone.
Believers must accept the names and descriptions of Allah affirmed in the
Holy Quran and Sunnah.
Any attributes or defects denied by Allah or His Messenger must be
rejected.
Allah's names and attributes should not be
altered, compared to creation, or depicted in any way.
The names and attributes of Allah Almighty, are the names that He has
confirmed or rejected Himself, or through the Messenger, or rejected. This should be done without altering Himself, or through the Messenger.
Rejecting them is done without
denying them, comparing them to anything in His creation, and without asking how or depicting them.
Monotheism of Allah's names and attributes requires believing in any verses or hadiths that mention them, without
adding or subtracting anything, without going beyond them, without interpreting them in a way that contradicts their literal wording, without comparing them to the attributes of creatures, and without denying or interpreting them figuratively.
Rather we must accept them as
they are.
Allah
The greatest name, meaning 'the God who is worshipped.
The proper name for the Lord, Most High
Al-Ahad (The One):
Signifying Allah's unique perfection and alone has perfect attributes, and there is no one like Him.
Al-Samad (The Eternal):
Describing Allah as the Master who is self-sufficient and the need of all.
o Allah has no children, parents, or partners, and nothing in creation is comparable to Him.
No one is comparable to Him:
He has no equal, no counterpart, and none of his creation is like Him, neither in His essence, nor in His attributes, nor in His actions.
Fundamentals of the Monotheism of Allah’s Names and Attributes
o Revelation-Based Understanding
o Belief in Divine Descriptions
o Non-Comparison
o Avoiding Speculation
Monotheism of Allah's names and attributes requires adherence to
the Book of Allah Almighty and the Sunnah of His Messenger (pbuh).
We cannot give Him a name or attribute not mentioned in them. Nor can we
compare Him to any of His creation because He is completely perfect and free of any faults
The names and attributes of Allah Almighty must be based on
Revelation and reasoning.
We can neither affirm nor deny anything for Allah Almighty except with the
information from the Qur'an or Sunnah. This is the only way, since calling Him by a name that did not Himself use is an offence against Him.
We must believe in what Allah used to describe Himself, and in what our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to describe Him because
he knows Allah Almighty better and does not speak from his own desire; it is nothing but a Revelation revealed to him
We must not compare any attribute of Allah Almighty to any
attribute of created by humans.
Sins are the cause of every hardship and the path to every misery. Every loss caused by sins and disobedience. Any distress or loss of livelihood that a person suffer is the result of a person's own
action and their turning away from Allah Almighty.
They cause a person to be deprived of knowledge: Knowledge is a light that casts into the
heart of a person, and sins extinguishes it
Imam Malik said to Ima Shafi when he saw his intelligence:
"I see that Allah has cast a light in your he: do not extinguish it with the darkness of disobedience."
o They cause alienation in one's heart, which the sinner
feels, such that he do like sitting with good and righteous people.
They cause matters to become difficult: Whoever is conscious of Allah, Allah guides things
easy for him, and whoever disobeys Allah, Allah will make things difficult
The sinner lives in humiliation: Allah humiliates whoever disobeys him.
In tr way, societies will be afflicted by disasters, lack of faith, and when there is a lot of corruption and when disobedience and sinning are wides
Belief in the meanings of Allah's attributes is required, but the exact nature of these attributes is
beyond human understanding.
Questioning the manner of Allah's attributes is
considered an innovation.
Reflecting on Allah's names and respecting Him in daily life is
encouraged.
The duty of the believer in names and attributes:
Believing in God's names and attributes without altering them ,comparing them to anything in his creation, and without depicting them.
