FRESHWATER

PHYSICAL WEATHERING
the breakdown of rocks and soils through direct contact with atmospheric conditions (conditions of the atmosphere) such as heat, water, ice, wind, pressure.

CHEMICAL WEATHERING
the process by which rocks break down as a result of chemical reactions

EROSION
the process by which solid materials like rocks and soil are moved from one area to another by water, ice, or wind.

DEPOSITION
a process by which rivers carry sand, small pebbles, and rocks down stream and then deposit (drop) them.

SEDIMENT
small, solid pieces of material that come from rocks or living things

ICE WEDGING
Process that splits rock when water seeps into cracks, then freezes and expands.
