Small state representation
Proposed at the constitutional convention By small states, the New Jersey plan favoured equal representation in Congress, where each state would have one vote regardless of size or population

The plan called for a unicameral legislature (one house), where each state would have an equal vote, unlike the Virginia plan, which proposed representation based on population
Expanded power of national government
While, it kept state sovereignty intact, the plan also gave the national government greater power over taxation and commerce
