What is Everlost?

Everlost is a limbo between life and death where Afterlights (children 16 and under who have not moved on to the light) live.

Who are Afterlights?

Children ages 16 and under who have died but have not made their way to the light.

What happens if an Afterlight stands still for too long?

They sink into the quicksand-like ground and eventually reach the center of the Earth.

What happens at the center of the Earth?

There is no escaping from the center of the Earth.

What is the only known exception to sinking?

Willpower. If an Afterlight has enough willpower, they can overcome obstacles in Everlost.

Why is willpower important?

In Everlost, if you truly want something badly enough, you can achieve it. The strongest Afterlights are those with the greatest willpower.

What happens to the clothes an Afterlight dies in?

They wear those clothes forever.

Why is memory important?

Whatever an Afterlight remembers stays with them, while whatever they forget is lost forever.

What happens if an Afterlight forgets their name?

Their name is lost forever. Most Afterlights eventually forget their names.

What are Deadspots?

Places in Everlost where the ground is solid because something that was loved crossed over into Everlost.

How are Deadspots created?

They form whenever something loved, such as a playground or theater, dies and crosses into Everlost.

What is a vortex?

A place where a Deadspot and a real-world object occupy the same location and compete to become the dominant reality.

What does Mary believe is the dominant reality?

Mary believes Everlost is the dominant reality.

What happens when an Afterlight enters a vortex?

They experience extreme memory issues and can begin transforming based on what they remember.

What example is given of a vortex's effects?

A little chocolate on someone's face can spread until their entire body turns into chocolate.
