Conclusion
: a statement that includes a summary of experimental results and if the hypothesis was proven or disproved (CER).
Control group:
the “normal” group; receives no “treatment” and is used as a baseline to compare groups and assess the effect of the “treatment.”
Density
: how tightly packed particles or objects are within a specified space or region.
Dependent Variable
: the variable that changes in response to the other; it depends on another variable for its results.
Experiment
: a scientific procedure that is conducted to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact.
Fair test:
Change only one factor (independent variable) while keeping everything else the same to ensure results are reliable and that only one factor causes changes.
Graduated cylinder:
a common piece of laboratory equipment used to measure the volume of a liquid with a narrow, cylindrical shape.
Hypothesis:
a prediction about what might occur used as a starting point for further investigation.
Independent Variable:
the variable that is directly manipulated by researchers.
Mass:
the amount of matter in an object.

noticing something occurring using the five senses.
Qualitative data:
data involving observations and descriptions.

data involving numbers.
Research:
using reliable sources to obtain background information.
Scientific method:
a process for experimentation that is used to explore observations and answer questions.
Scientific notation:
a way of expressing numbers that are too large or too small to be conveniently written in decimal form.
SI units:
the standard units of measurement defined by the International System of Units (SI) for seven base quantities.

a typical instrument used to measure the mass of various objects.
Volume:
the amount of space that a substance or object occupies
