Pinna
The ear tip; the inside is concave and the outside is convex.

Keratitis
Inflammation of the cornea.
Entropion
The rolling in of the eyelid.
Ectropion
The rolling out of the eyelid.
Anisocoria
A condition where the pupils are of different sizes.
Aural Hematoma
A hematoma within the auricular cartilage, often caused by head shaking, scratching, or fighting.
Cherry Eye
The prolapse of the third eyelid.
Endozime
A timed-soak enzymatic cleaner used to break down organic debris and kill bacteria on endoscopes.
Cidex
A high-level disinfectant used as a soak for 40−60min to disinfect equipment like endoscopes.
Plegia
Paralysis; the inability to move legs.
Paresis
Weakness in moving legs or difficulty walking.
Monoplegia/Monoparesis
Affecting one leg.
Paraplegia/Paraparesis
Affecting both back legs.
Tetraplegia/Tetraparesis
Affecting all four legs.
Hemiplegia/Hemiparesis
Affecting one side of the body (either the left or right legs).
Ataxia
Uncoordinated or wobbly walking.
Conscious Proprioception (CP)
The ability of an animal to know where its feet are in space and place them correctly when walking.
Bladder Atony
Loss of bladder muscle tone, which can be caused by overflow incontinence when the bladder becomes too full.
Electrical Stimulation
An applied electrical current used locally to reduce pain or cause muscle contractions.
Photobiomodulation (Laser Therapy)
The application of electromagnetic radiation within the red and infrared spectrum to stimulate healing and provide pain relief.
Cryotherapy
A cold-based therapy used following trauma to provide analgesia and limit swelling via vasoconstriction.
Therapeutic Ultrasound
A deep heating modality that can elevate tissue temperature at depths of 2−5cm.
Shockwave
A high-energy sound wave technology offering a noninvasive treatment for lameness and pain.
Dehiscence
The separation of all layers of an incision or the premature loss of sutures allowing the surgical site to open.
Abdominocentesis
The puncture of the abdomen to obtain fluid.
Doxapram
A drug used to stimulate respirations for resuscitation of newborns following a cesarean section.
Cystic Calculi
The primary indication for performing a cystotomy.
Zepp Procedure
A surgical procedure indicated for chronic ear infections.
Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS)
A condition that may occur following the removal of the gland of the third eyelid.
Autotransfusion
The process of administering blood collected aseptically from a patient's body cavity back to the same patient.
