Statistics
The science of conducting studies to collect, organize, summarize, analyze, and draw conclusions from data.
Variable
A characteristic or attribute that can assume different values.
Population
All subjects (human or otherwise) that are being studied.
Sample
A group of subjects selected from a population.
Descriptive Statistics
The collection, organization, summarization, and presentation of data.
Qualitative Variable
A variable that has distinct categories according to some characteristic or attribute.
Quantitative Variable
A variable that can be counted or measured.
Discrete Variable
A quantitative variable whose possible values can be counted.
Continuous Variable
A quantitative variable that can assume an infinite number of values between any two specific values, obtained by measuring.
Frequency
The number of times a value or category occurs.
Relative Frequency
The proportion or percent of observations within a category.
Histogram
A graph that displays quantitative data using contiguous vertical bars of various heights to represent the frequencies of the classes.
Ogive
A graph that represents the cumulative frequencies for the classes in a frequency distribution.
