Planet
Celestial object that orbits one or more stars. A planet is a pefect sphere because of how gravity works
How did the solar system form
it formed when dust, gases, and other debris that were left over from the formation of the sun spinned around the star to form rings.
How did our planets form
Gravity caused the material to clump up and contract, creating objects like planets, moons, comets and asteroids.
How did the moon form
The moon formed when earth struck a object the size of Mars, causing both to melt and mix together. The debris of the collision stayed in earth’s orbit and became the moon.
How did the inner planets form
Inner planets formed when a bunch of cel. objects (rock) close to the sun stuck together. Anything closer then mercury burnt up, and only the inner planets survived
Outer planets
Outer planets formed when solar winds blew gases away from the sun, past the asteroid belt, and past the snow line. These gases stuck together with frozen water droplets and dust to form the gas giants
Snow line
Past the asteroid belt, where water freezes instantly
Dwarf planets
Made up of large balls of ice. Theres 25 of them, example is pluto
Oort cloud
The most distant part of our solar system, made up of ice and dust, major source of comets
Comets
Made up of ice and dust that orbits the sun. Gravitonaly distrubances cause comets to orbit closer to the sun, and the extra heat causes it to break of and solar winds let it sparkle in light
Meteoroid
Small piece of metal or rock that travels through space. It does not orbit the sun
Meteor
When a meteoroid enters our atmosphere. It is also called a shooting star because it burns up in our atmosphere.
Meteorite
A meteor that doesnt burn up and hits earth.
