● This cell may be cultured and stained for karyotyping.
● Chromosomal study of fetal tissues should be free of diseases.

INBORN ERROR OF METABOLISM

The enzyme defect must present in
amniotic as early as 14-16th weeks to have a diagnosis.

PERCUTANEOUS UMBILICAL BLOOD SAMPLING

● Also called cordocentesis or funicentesis.
● The aspiration of blood from the umbilical
cord using amniocentesis technique for
analysis.
● Studies such as: CBC, Direct Coombs
Test, Blood Gases, and Karyotyping
● Note: monitor FHR and uterine
contractions before and after the
procedure.
