Procedure

Step 1

  • Probe all surfaces of teeth in each sextant (with WHO probe in alcove)

Step 2

  • Each sextant receives one code number corresponding to the deepest position of the color coded portion of the probe (highest code documented)

Scoring/interpretation

Patients are classified into assessment and treatment planning needs by the highest coded score of their PSR

Codes 3 & 4= comprehensive periodontal assessment is indicated

Code 4= stop screening and perform comprehensive evaluation

Can include asterisks* in sextants to indicate:

•Furcation involvement

•Mucogingival involvement

•Minimal attached gingiva
