A small crowd of youth protested by singing anti-war and anti-Kremlin sons 

One of the performers and leader of the protest, was arrested and may face stronger consequences (multiple years in prison) if she faces charges under the "discrediting the army law"

Protests calling for release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra  separatist group 

Biafra is a region mainly populated by the Igbo people, who feel marginalized by government and want to secede from Nigeria 

Police responded violently to the protest 

Course Connection:  

  • Political Participation: People participating in politics by protesting for separation from Nigerian government, social divides are so strong the Biafran people believe the only way to have representation is to separate from Nigeria

  The UN reimposed economic sanctions on Iran after they would not limit their nuclear activity, causing hyperinflation

Iran is relying on "resistance economy" to deal with the sanctions, focusing on self suffientcy and closer trade with Russia and China

Amparo law allows Mexican people to challenge any law that may violate constitutional rights by filing a lawsuit 

September of this year, there is a reform being passed on the Amparo Law presented by President Sheinbaum to make it harder for Mexican citizens to file a lawsuit 

Reform is not signed yet 

Course Connection:  

  • Political institutions – By pushing Amparo reform, Sheinbaum is excising lots of influence over how citizen's engage with the judicial branch and how their constitutional rights are protected 

    • President proposing change, affects judiciary but legislative branch needs to approve it
