Goblet Cell
A unicellular gland that secretes mucus.
Mucous Membrane
A type of membrane that lines cavities and tubes that open to the outside of the body.
Serous Membrane
A thin tissue layer that covers and protects underlying structures and lines internal cavities.
Visceral Serosa
The layer directly adhered to an organ in a serous membrane.
Parietal Serosa
The outer layer in a serous membrane attached to the cavity wall.
Glandular Epithelium
Epithelial tissue adapted for secretion
Muscle Tissue
Contractile tissue responsible for movement.
Skeletal Muscle Tissue
Multinucleated muscle tissue with striations under voluntary control.
Smooth Muscle Tissue
Spindle-shaped muscle tissue lacking striations under involuntary control.
Cardiac Muscle Tissue
Striated muscle tissue with intercalated discs, found in the heart.
Neurons
Branching cells that conduct electrical signals.
Supporting Cells (Neuroglia)
Non-conducting cells that support and protect neurons in the nervous system.
Inflammation
The body's response to tissue damage, characterized by redness, swelling, heat, and pain.
Tissue Repair
The process by which the body replaces damaged tissues with new tissue.
Stem Cell
An undifferentiated cell that can differentiate into specialized cells and can divide to produce more stem cells.
