Oculomotor dysfunction

Vision is a motor activity that requires the eyes to work and move together to maintain a single visual image

There are 2 common disorders:

• Diplopia

• Convergence

Impairments include:

• Slower scanning of the environment

• Headaches & eye strain

• Difficulty with up close tasks

• Difficulty reaching for objects (Diplopia)

Diplopia

Causes images to appear blurred or doubled

Convergence

Coordinating the eyes to look at very close objects

Visual field deficits

When you are missing part of your vision

• Homonoymous hemianopsia - Same visual field cut on both eyes

• Mobility safety concerns

• Problems finding everyday items

Visual field deficits interventions

• Unable to locate items —> organization of environment

• Bumping into environment —> organized scanning, awareness training

• Difficulty reading —> anchors & line guides

Hemispatial neglect

Unable to attend to affected side
