What is apologetics?
The discipline that seeks to provide a defense of the truthfulness of the Christian faith for the purpose of presenting the truth to unbelievers.
Where does the word apologetics come from and what did it originally mean?
From the Greek word apologia, meaning defense. It was used as a legal term in Greek culture; Socrates described defending himself against accusers.
What apologetics is not
Not merely an apology for the faith; it is a logical defense. It is not primarily about persuading everyone, but about encouraging people to apply these truths in their lives.
Why should Christians be able to give a defense?
If you claim to believe something, you should know how to back it up.
Does the Bible talk about giving a defense?
Yes—1 Peter 3:15 instructs believers to be prepared to give a defense for the hope they have.
