Self
The unique, thinking and feeling inner being shaped by all of one’s experiences.
Self-awareness
Conscious recognition that a thinking, feeling “self” exists within, requiring reflection to perceive.
Self-determination
Pursuit of goals and fulfillment that stems from deeply understanding one’s own self.
Identity
The overall collection of traits, experiences, and values that define who a person is.
Core Being
The essential, most authentic aspect of oneself sought during self-discovery.
Hormonal Imbalance (Adolescence)
The surge of hormones during teenage years that intensifies the search for identity.
Johari Window
A four-quadrant model by Luft & Ingham (1955) illustrating what is known or unknown to self and others.
Open Area / Arena
Quadrant where traits are known to both self and others; the public self.
Facade / Hidden Area
Quadrant where traits are known to the self but intentionally kept from others.
Blind Spot
Quadrant containing traits unknown to the self but recognized by significant others.
Unknown Quadrant
Quadrant containing traits unknown to both self and others, awaiting future discovery.
Learning-Unlearning-Relearning
The continuous cycle of adopting, discarding, and revising lessons to refine self-understanding.
Consciousness
Awareness of one’s internal thoughts and external surroundings, contributing to the sense of self.
Self-esteem
An individual’s evaluation of their own worth and abilities.
Ego
The aspect of the mind that mediates between inner desires, reality, and moral standards, influencing self-concept.
