Ampere's Law
A rule that links the magnetic field around a loop to the electric current passing through it.
Closed Loop Integral of B
In Ampere's Law, this is the integral of the magnetic field (B) around a closed path.
μ₀ (mu naught)
A constant, also known as the permeability of free space, used in Ampere's Law.
B parallel along Δl
The part of the magnetic field (B) that is parallel to a small piece of the closed loop (Δl).
Current crossing the closed loop (I)
The amount of electric current (I) that goes through the area inside the closed loop in Ampere's Law.
Solenoid
A coil of wire that's tightly wound into a helix shape, creating a uniform magnetic field inside.
Magnetic field (B) inside a solenoid
The magnetic field inside a solenoid is mostly uniform and runs along the solenoid's axis.
n (in the context of a solenoid)
In a solenoid, this is the number of wire loops per unit length (N/l).
Homemade Magnet
A solenoid made by wrapping wire around a tube and sending current through it,
