What are edge lines ?
solid lines along the side of the road that mark the right or left edge of the roadway
What does a single, solid, WHITE edge line mark ?
it marks the RIGHT edge of the roadway
What does a single, solid, YELLOW edge line mark ?
it marks the LEFT edge of the roadway on DIVIDED HIGHWAYS and ONE-WAY streets
White lane lines … ?
separate lanes of traffic moving in the SAME direction
What does a single, broken, WHITE lane line indicate ?
you may cross this line to change lanes (when safe to do so)
What does a single, solid, WHITE lane line indicate ?
you may travel in the SAME direction on both sides of this line, but DO NOT cross the line unless you must do so to avoid a hazard, also used to discourage lane changes near intersections
What do double, solid, WHITE lane lines indicate ?
you CANNOT cross, is PROHIBITED
Yellow lane lines … ?
separate lanes moving in OPPOSITE directions
What does a single, broken YELLOW lane line indicate ?
stay to the RIGHT of the line, you can pass a car ahead of you when it is safe to do so
What do double, solid, YELLOW lane lines indicate ?
vehicles moving in either direction must NOT pass or cross these lines BUT may turn left OR pass a bicyclist when safe to do so
What do double, YELLOW lane lines (broken left line/solid right line) indicate ?
passing is NOT allowed in this lane BUT may turn left OR pass a bicyclist when safe to do so
What do double, YELLOW lane line (solid left line/broken right line)
passing is allowed when safe to do so
What do WHITE stop lines indicate ?
you must stop for a stop sign/stoplight, you MUST stop BEFORE any part of your vehicle touches the line
What do marked crosswalks indicate ?
show where pedestrians should cross, motorist must ALWAYS yield right-of-way to pedestrians on crosswalks
Turn lanes … ?
are arrows used with white lane lines to show which turn may be made from the lane
When a lane is marked with a curved arrow and the word "ONLY", that means ...?
you MUST turn in the direction of the arrow
When a lane is marked with both a curved and straight arrow, that means ...?
you may either turn or go straight
A two-way roadway with center lane indicates ...?
drivers from either direction may use the center lane for LEFT turns, NOT for passing
