Asylum Seekers
Migrants who seek political safety in another country.
Refugee
Someone forced to migrate to a different country due to war, natural disaster, violence, or persecution.
Internally Displaced Person (IDP)
Someone forced to migrate for similar reasons as a refugee, but remains within their original country.
Remittances
A portion of wages sent home by migrants to support family and friends.
Brain Drain
The emigration of highly trained or educated individuals from a country.
Diversity Lottery
A system, such as in the United States, that gives priority to immigrants from countries that have historically sent few people to the country.
Rural to Urban Migration
The movement of people from rural areas to urban centers, identified as the most prominent type of intraregional migration worldwide during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
