Ways to charge transfer of remains to funeral home

You can charge for the transfer any way you see fit

• Flat fee

• Hourly charge

• Mileage charge

• Or some combination

Embalming

Price for embalming should be all inclusive for that particular task

• Preparation room

• Professional services

• Instruments and equipment

• Chemicals and materials

It does not include the parking lot, support staff salaries, office supplies, car maintenance, etc.

Only embalming related costs

Must tell consumers that embalming is not required by law

Other preparations of the body

This includes cosmetic application, dressing and casketing for viewing washing and disinfection for ID viewing

Use of facilities and staff for visitations

A flat fee or hourly fee

Includes the staff who are working this viewing period and the use of facilities for this viewing period

These two parts of the fee shall not be separated and charged as two different pieces

You can have an additional fee listed for staff that you send to a church or a home or other facility other than your own building

Use of facilities and staff for funeral ceremony

A service with the body present

It includes the staff who are working this ceremony and the use of the facilities for this ceremonies

These two parts of the fee shall not be separated and charged as two different pieces

You can additional fee listed for staff that you send to a church or home or other facility other than your own building

Use of equipment and staff for graveside service

A service at the cemetery (graveside, chapel, mausoleum, anything on cemetery grounds)

This is done instead of a service at the funeral home or church

It includes the staff who are working this ceremony and the use of any equipment utilized for this ceremony

These two parts of the fee shall not be separated and charged as two different pieces

You can charge for regular funeral services and also charge for committal services if your firm does not always do them in conjunction with each other

This fee is when they only use the cemetery as the place of service

Use of facilities & staff for memorial service

A service without the body present

It includes the staff who are working this ceremony and the use of the facilities for this ceremony

These two parts of the fee shall not be separated and charged as two different pieces

You can have an additional fee listed for staff that you send to a church or a home or other facility other than your own building

Hearse

You can charge for the hearse in any way you see fit

Flat fee/hourly charge/mileage charge/or some combination of these

Limousine

You can charge for the limousine any way you see fit

Forwarding remains to another funeral home

This fee must include all the basic charges associated with the goods and services required for this task

This charge needs to include

• Because it was stated earlier that the special charges for forwarding, perceiving, immediate burial, and direct cremation already had this fee included

Receiving remains from another funeral home

This fee must include all the basic charges associated with the goods and services required for this task

This charge needs to include

• Basic services fee

• Facility fee

• Equipment fees

You may add other charges for merchandise and additional services, but you may not add your basic (non-declinable) service fee

• Because it was stated earlier that the special charges for forwarding, perceiving, immediate burial, and direct cremation already had this fee included

Immediate burial

Thus fee must include all the basic charges associated with the goods and services required for this task

It does not need to include the fee for the burial itself (fee for opening and closing of the grave)

You may list the OBCPL on the GPL in total or you may list the range of OBC available with the disclosure “a complete price list will be provided at the funeral home”

Alternative general price lists

All alternative GPLs must comply with “the rule,” all 6 mandatory disclosures, and all 16 itemizations

Three accepted types

• Children & infants

• Governmental

• Religious groups & memorial societies

The CPL must include

Name of business

Address

The caption “casket price list”

The effective date of the CPL

The retail price of each casket and alternative container that does not require special ordering, with enough information to identify it

What's needed in CPL

Usual offerings listed

Written description

Photograph or manufacture model # is not enough

Same list for caskets and alternative containers

Allowable if items go out of stock to verbally let the family know

Can be listen in any order or through a variety of ways

If a model has a color/interior variations just include it in the written description, does not need a separate CPL listing

The rules of CPL

Present a CPL to anyone when casket/alt container pricing is discussed

Does not have to be given to keep unless requested

CPL before showing the caskets

Price cards allowed on the caskets but still have to present a CPL

Can use the supplier’s selection room but still CPL before showing the caskets

Any modification to a preneed contract, must present a current CPL
