Avascular necrosis
(ay-VAS-cue-ler neh-KROH-sis)
a- means without, vascul/o means blood
vessels, -ar means pertaining to, necrosis
means tissue death. Avascular necrosis of the
bone is death of bone tissue due to insufficient
blood flow.
Radiculopathy

Radicul/o means nerve or root, -pathy means
disease. Radiculopathy is compression of a
nerve in the spine, also known as pinched

Osteochondroma is a growth of bony tissue
covered in cartilage. It is benign.
Osteoporosis
(oss-tee-oh-poh-ROH-sis)
Oste/o means bone, por means small opening,
and -osis is a disease. Osteoporosis is a
disease that causes loss of bone density and
increase in small holes within the bone tissue.
Osteopenia
(oss-tee-oh-PEEE-nee-ah
Oste/o means bone and -penia means
deficiency. Osteopenia means a thinner bone
density than normal and can lead to
osteoporosis.
Osteitis
(oss-tee-EYE-tis)
Oste/o means bone, -itis means inflammation.
Therefore, osteitis is inflammation of a bone
