Electric Field
Electric field is a region in which an electric charge experiences an electric force
Electrostatic Charging by induction (charging one conductor)
Place a charged rod close to the conducting sphere. The unlike charges accumulate on the side nearer to the charged rod while the like charges accumulates on the other sides.
Touching the sphere on the right allows the electrons to be repelled further away into the person’s body
Electrostatic Charging by induction (charging two conductor)
Place a charged rod close to one of the conducting spheres that are in contact. Positive charges in the rod attract free electrons to the left, leaving the right side positively charged.
Keeping the rod in position, separate the two spheres to isolate the two groups of opposite charges
remove the charged rod. The spheres now have equal but opposite charge.
Examples of electrostatic charging
Transfer of fluids and dry bulk
Air flow across surface of planes and vehicles
Spray painting
Electrostatic Precipitator
