Kidney
One of two organs that filter waste from the blood and help make urine; about the size of a fist and located toward the back.
Kidneys
The two organs that clean your blood and remove waste; without them you could not survive.
Urine
Waste produced by the kidneys that is sent to the bladder for storage and elimination.
Bladder
A storage pouch that holds urine and expands as it fills.
Dialysis
A medical treatment that cleans the blood when the kidneys cannot work well enough, sometimes using a machine.
Kidney transplant
A procedure where a healthy kidney from another person is placed into someone whose kidneys are not functioning properly.
Kidney beans
Beans named for their shape because they resemble kidneys.
One kidney
People can usually survive with only one healthy kidney.
Filter
The process by which the kidneys remove waste from the blood.
Thirst
Feeling of needing to drink; paying attention to thirst helps keep kidneys healthy.
