Ionic bond
A chemical bond formed between oppositely charged ions through electrostatic attraction.
Polar covalent bond
A covalent bond in which electrons are shared unequally between atoms, resulting in partial electrical charges.
Nonpolar covalent bond
A covalent bond in which electrons are shared equally between atoms.
pH scale
A scale used to classify solutions as acidic, basic, or neutral based on hydrogen ion concentration.
Benedict's test
A chemical assay used to detect the presence of simple sugars in a sample.
Lugol's iodine test
A chemical assay used to test for the presence of starches in a sample.
Testable hypothesis
A hypothesis formulated such that it can be directly tested through observation or experimentation.
Falsifiable hypothesis
A hypothesis that can be proven false if contradicted by experimental evidence.
Independent variable
The specific variable that is deliberately manipulated or changed by the experimenter.
Dependent variable
The variable that is measured or observed to determine the effect of the independent variable.
Control group
An experimental group kept in baseline conditions to serve as a standard of comparison.
Standardized variable
A variable held constant throughout an experiment to isolate the impact of the independent variable.
Carbohydrates
Biological molecules encompassing simple sugars and starches, identifiable through specific chemical indicator tests.
Scientific graph
A visual representation of data including key components such as graph type, title, axes, labels, and plotted data points.
