When did Southall's Punjabi community first migrate to London?

Large numbers of Punjabis migrated to the UK from India and Pakistan in the 1950s and 60s. At this time, Southall and the surrounding area were home to many factories.

- Post-war Britain was facing a shortage of workers, so some managers recruited Sikh Indian soldiers as many had served in the second world war along with Sikh Indians.
- These new arrivals settled in Southall, which was close to work and affordable, and through chain migration the town's South Asian population grew
