Air Force Assigned Mission (AFAM)
Any Civil Air Patrol (CAP) activity authorized by the Air Force to use an “A” or “B” mission symbol, providing federal insurance coverage.
eServices
The CAP website serving as the primary portal for most electronic services for CAP members.
Incident Commander (IC)
The CAP member responsible for the command of CAP resources supporting an incident; if CAP is not the lead agency, this member serves as the agency representative.
National Operations Center (NOC)
The single resource for coordinating mission approval and up-channeling reports for both AFAMs and CAP corporate missions, operating 24/7 in case of emergency.
Web Mission Information Reporting System (WMIRS)
The CAP website accessible through eServices used to track mission sorties, approval, and other critical mission information.
Operations Qualifications (Ops Quals)
The CAP website used to document all operations-related training and qualifications for CAP members.
Operational Resource Management System (ORMS)
The CAP website used to track the primary assignment of CAP equipment, vehicles, and aircraft.
Imminently Serious Missions (C911)
A corporate mission authorized by a wing commander to save lives, relieve human suffering, or mitigate great property damage, usually initiated by a state or local official request.
Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA)
Provides liability protection by the United States Government for CAP members acting within the scope of their duties on Air Force-Assigned Missions.
Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA)
Eligibility for benefits provided to CAP members 18 years of age and older if injured or killed while serving on an Air Force-Assigned Mission.
SAVE
The preservation of a human life as a result of actions taken by emergency services (ES) forces, as determined by the controlling agency.
FIND
An award classified as distress or non-distress given to a search force for locating and positively identifying a assigned search objective.
General Emergency Services (GES)
The foundational specialty rating required of all individuals qualifying in emergency services, completed by passing the CAPT 116 questionnaire and OPSEC training.
Skills Evaluator Training (SET)
A requirement for current and qualified supervisors to certify task completion on a member's Specialty Qualification Training Record.
Specialty Qualification Training Record (SQTR)
A record used to train and qualify members in stages, including prerequisites, familiarization, and advanced training.
Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)
Teams and protocols established to assist CAP personnel who are exposed to stressful situations during operational missions.
National Incident Management System (NIMS)
A standardized national framework for incident management that CAP is committed to complying with for disaster response activities.
Operational Security (OPSEC)
The basis for protecting sensitive information where loss or compromise could pose a threat to agency operations or missions.
Preliminary Search
The early phase of a mission intended to rapidly cover territory where an objective might be located using route searches.
Concentrated Search
A search phase conducted if the objective is not located during the preliminary search, focusing on the most probable areas based on careful flight analysis.
