Natural Increase Rate (NIR)
The percentage by which a population grows in a year, calculated as Crude Birth Rate (CBR) minus Crude Death Rate (CDR).
Demography
The study of changing population characteristics.
Crude Birth Rate (CBR)
The total number of babies born annually per 1,000 people.
Crude Death Rate (CDR)
The number of people who die naturally annually per 1,000 people.
Total Fertility Rate (TFR)
A prediction of future population growth based on current trends, focusing on young females.
Demographic Transition
The change in a country's population over time, primarily looking at changes in Crude Birth Rates and Crude Death Rates.
Demographic Momentum
The idea that a country's population will continue to grow due to a large section of its population being young.
Infant Mortality Rate (IMR)
The annual number of deaths of babies under the age of one.
Life Expectancy
The average number of years a newborn infant is expected to live.
Stages of Demographic Transition
Four stages that describe population growth patterns: Stage 1 (Low Growth), Stage 2 (High Growth), Stage 3 (Moderate Growth), and Stage 4 (Low Growth).
