Trust: infants see themselves world as a safe place for exploration and see people as reliable and loving

Mistrust: infants see the world as dangerous and people as insensitive and hurtful.

Autonomy vs shame and doubt

Age: second stage of infancy

Key idea: infants learn whether they are capable of accomplishing tasks and meeting challenges.

Possible outcomes——————-

Autonomy: infants develop confidence in their abilities and independence

Shane and doubt: infants doubt their abilities and may get shame about their limitations.
