ISO
“International Organization for Standardization”
ISO measures the sensitivity of the camera's sensor to light.
Low ISO
Camera is less sensitive to light. Best for ouside when it is bright and sunny.
High ISO
Camera is more sensitive to light, useful in low-light conditions but may introduce higher noise levels.
Shutter Speed
The amount of time the camera's shutter is open to expose light onto the camera sensor. It affects motion blur and exposure.
Slower shutter speed
Can be helpful to remove distraction like rain or snow from a photo. It can cause dark noise.
Dark noise
Speckles on the photo caused by a slow shutter speed.
Reciprocal Exposure
A principle in photography that states that changing the shutter speed and aperture in opposite directions will maintain the same exposure.
Bracketing
A technique in photography where multiple images are taken at various exposures to ensure a well-exposed final image. Typically +1, 0, and -1 on the light meter. The resulting photos can later be combined or selected to achieve the desired exposure quality.
Low F stop
Refers to a large aperture opening in a camera lens, allowing more light to enter and creating a shallow depth of field. Aperture opening is wider.
High F stop
Indicates a smaller aperture opening in a camera lens, allowing less light to enter and creating a greater depth of field, resulting in more of the scene being in focus. Aperture opening is smaller.
