Reduced echelon form

matrix meets specific criteria:

-all leading entries are 1,

-each leading 1 is the only nonzero entry in its column

-the leading 1 in each row is to the right of the leading 1 in the previous row.

Augmented matrix

a matrix that contains all coefficients of a linear system, including the constant term on the right side of an eq.

Echelon Form

linear system w/:

-Every variable is the leading variable of at most 1 eq

-system is organized in descending step pattern

-every eq had leading variable

Elementary row operations

1. Interchange 2 rows

2. Multiply row by constant

3. replace row w sum of that row & scalar multiple of other row
